Jensen's 18 + 5 Month Pictures

It only took three tries and five months, but we finally got Jensen's eighteen month old pictures done. We had these done up in Utah at the beginning of April. The only reason these turned out is due to a brilliant idea that I had
(I have them once in awhile) right before we got in the car to head to the studio.

Two words.
Baby Einstein!

We grabbed the Kanet's portable DVD player with Einstein loaded in it. While the ladies were snapping pictures, Jensen was watching his show. Quincy snapped this picture with his phone because it was a pretty hilarious site.

The DVD player wasn't charged so it had to be plugged in and could only reach so far. They had two photographers trying to get Jensen to smile. And again I was sweating.

Jensen started to get real grumpy and I said that as long as one turned out we were fine.
Here is what they captured.

Since Jensen's birthday was only a month away when we took these, I wasn't going back. So this is also Jensen's 2 Year Old Picture. Doesn't he look so much older? Hee hee.

Lucy was due for her 6 month pictures. Needless to say she didn't need the DVD player. I can't believe that my baby is 6 months! Too crazy.

We got a new family picture since I hated the other one.
Not sure if this one is much better though.

Thanks Kanets for saving the day again and letting us borrow your DVD player.

First Swim of the Season

Last Saturday we headed to St. George, Utah to swim at the Washington Rec Center. We had a family reunion there last year and had a great time so we decided it was worth the drive to go again. Quincy's parents and some of his nieces and nephews joined us in our outing.

When we got there Jensen just jumped into the big kids pool. Good thing Quincy was right there. Let's just say Mother Bear was a little scared.

They have a great toddler area and Jensen spent the rest of the time in that pool. He had such a great time. It is an indoor and outdoor facility so the wind was coming in and would make him cold so he would just lay down in the water to stay warm. He outlasted all of his cousins in the pool. He didn't want to leave. Even when I got him all dressed to head home he headed straight for the pool again.

Lucy didn't enjoy it as much. I think the water was a little bit too cold for her. Instead, she kicked it with her Mama showing off her cute hat. I made this up in Utah with lots of help from my sister-in-law Melissa. I think it turned out way cute! Thanks Melissa for your help.

Jensen's Second Birthday

Jensen turned the dreaded terrible twos on Friday. I can't believe my baby is two.
Where did the time go? We decided to keep things simple this birthday since he has no idea what is going on. We had his favorite meal for dinner, pizza of course. Then we headed to the park to play. He had a great time.

Lucy did too!

This is too cute of Lucy laughing at her brother on the swings.

Jensen found this pile of rocks at the park. Man he loves rocks! I think that is what we should have gotten him for his birthday. Instead we got him a sand and water table to play with in our huge rock pile backyard. For now it is just going to be a water table since we don't want to commit to sand just yet.

I think he liked it don't you?

This is my favorite cake that my mom makes for me. Since Jensen could careless about sweets, I decided to make my favorite since my birthday was the day before. Not sure where he gets that because both of his parents have quite a rabid sweet tooth. I have never made this cake but thought how hard could it be right? Well, this is actually was my second attempt at this cake that day. Didn't I swear off cakes? Shouldn't I realize that I should just stick to cookies? Yes, but somehow I built up this fake confidence and tried to bake one. The first cake turned out like chocolate frisbees. We could have taken them to the park with us and tossed it around. I knew it wasn't going to turn out when it was thicker than brownies. I kept bothering my mom to help me but she was kind of busy at my brother's college graduation. It ended up not being totally my fault. I just wrote down the recipe wrong. I say blame it on my dyslexia and bad phone communication. I thought 1 and 1/2 cups of cocoa and shortening was a lot. The second one turned out just like if my mom would have baked it. It also stayed standing even after I frosted it. So maybe I won't swear off cakes just yet.
The Kanets came over to sing Happy Birthday to Jensen and Ellie even helped him blow out his candle. I should have had more people come over because I ended up eating half of the cake over the weekend. So much for "eating healthy" as I like to call it.

The Big 3-0!

Kermit says no way is my Mama the big 3-0!

When I woke up on my birthday I thought it was just going to be another day. Jensen's voice was coming through the monitor and that usually means my day has to start. But Quincy told me that I could stay in bed while he got up. This is not usual by any means. I stayed in bed with Lucy while he went and made me and the family breakfast. I am not sure why I didn't take any pictures of this event but I didn't. He made a yummy breakfast and even cleaned the kitchen when he was done.

Marian, my friend, had asked me to come over for lunch on my birthday. I didn't think too much about it, just got the kids and myself ready and headed over. When the door opened I got a surprise. A bunch of my friends all yelling Happy Birthday to me. What a wonderful surprise! We had a delicious lunch and yummy birthday cake. I kept waiting for them to bring out the Old Maid cards but they didn't. Marian is such a great friend to me! I am going to be really sad when one of us has to move away. It was a great way to spend the afternoon on my birthday.

(I really don't like this picture but Marian looks good in it. It looks like I am going to eat her.)

Later that day Quincy brought me home dinner from the Rio and then we had to go to Mutual. Marian again went the extra mile and made cupcakes for me and the Young Womens. Later that night Jensen gave me a little present too.
There you have it. Jensen's first word, Car! And some other jibberish that we can't interpret yet.
I had a great day full of birthday wishes!
It just made me realize what great friends and family I have.

County Fair

One of the reasons I had to head back home from Utah was to get ready for the Clark County Fair in Logandale. We spent two days there and had a lot of fun. Jensen really enjoyed the animals and rides this year which made it even more fun to go this year.

Jensen and his cousin Bryson.

Poor Lucy! Most of her pics are in the stroller.
She is just so good to stay in there and watch what is going on.

Quincy with the help from his company bought his niece Shelbi's little lamb. She has been raising it to earn money for her college fund. Luckily someone else wanted the meat since I have no idea how to cook mutton! Shelbi was so cute showing her lamb and did a great job. I have to say it was another successful fair with pulled pork sandwiches and I even found a crepe this year!
