Mutton Busting at the Fair

We didn't know if we were going to make it to the fair this year since Quincy's parents are still on a mission. They are usually our fair hook-up and tour guides for the fair. But since Jensen has been wanting to ride the sheep all year long, we decided we better not miss this year. We actually didn't know if Jensen would really go through with it. He practiced on Quincy's back here and there but we had no idea if he would really do it. Quincy said that he did get nervous when it got closer to his turn but he did it. It didn't last eight seconds like we hoped it would but I am so proud of this kid for trying.

My Brave Mutton Buster

For riding the sheep they gave Jensen a t-shirt and $5!

Bryson was Jensen's hero last year in the Mutton Bustin. Whenever we talked about it he would say he was going to ride just like Bryson.

Of course it wouldn't be the fair without basketball hoops. Kevin was the first and only Walker winner this year.

Quincy gave it a shot but just wasn't his year. Maybe the little boys watching him threw him off or his wife shaking her head at him.

Of course there were lots of rides for the kids. I had deja vu when I was watching them.

Jensen and Bryson fair of 2010

Jensen was able to go on the big rides this year. He wasn't quite able to actually get in the swing by himself though. A nice girl helped him in and out of the ride. Quincy gave her a tip for her troubles.

We laughed so hard at Bryson's and Jensen's face on this ride. It was pure horror turned to smile turned back to horror depending on which way the ride was moving.

Lucy was more brave this fair as she went on some of the big kid rides. This one entertained us to see the kids spinning around squishing each other. We might of laughed too hard watching their faces.

After the rides we took a break from the heat and sat under a tree for some dinner. Even Duncan got some nourishment. Jensen snapped this shot while he was not waiting patiently to get back to the fair. He even decided to go and try some of the rides by himself and got lost twice.

Happy Duncan. Jensen also took this shot.

These two girls had a great time with their umbrellas thanks to Demsie's Grandma. These were great souvenirs since they provided shade for the girls and you could spot them in the crowd.

Last picture of the night.
We were so glad to head home after a full day at the fair. Not sure how we usually do three days of the fair. We sure missed Grandma and Grandpa Haworth. Just wasn't the same.

The Carnie 2013

The Clark County Fair was back in April but I am a little behind.

Some of the highlights that I can remember are:
Lots of kid rides, Jensen being brave and going on the big slide all by himself, good food and ice cream, Lucas showing his first pig, Shelbi showing a lamb, Bryson Mutton Bustin with a score of 98!,  Jensen falling down and hurting his knee, fun with the cousins, Walker Brothers banking the basketball to win too many times at the basketball hoop, petting the pigs and other farm animals, seeing the Idaho cousins, telling the family I am expecting, trampoline jumping, hot weather (hasn't been good weather for years), Jensen's new cowboy hat, Lucy and Demsie naked in the mud (sorry no pictures of this), dog show, last sleepover at Di and Kev's old house. . .

I am sure I left out something since we spent two days there.

Jensen watching Bryson Muttin Bustin. He says he is going to do it next year. So the story behind his cowboy hat is he keeps wearing a safari hat at home and calling it a cowboy hat. He got it from his friend Jackson's birthday party.  We didn't really have the heart to tell him that it wasn't a cowboy hat. We knew the fair would be a perfect place to get a real cowboy hat. We told him that he could pick one thing at the fair and they would have real cowboy hats there. Well, he didn't forget what we told him. He was so excited to get this hat. He loves wearing it around the house with his crocs.

Lucy and Jensen were very excited to see Josh their cousin. They have been praying for him for months and we are all so glad he is doing well. If you don't know this awesome kid read this and grab a Kleenex or two.

Worn out but not tired enough to take that hat off!

Clark County Fair Round-Up

It's that time of year again for the Clark County Fair out in Logandale. The kids were pumped this year to go out and ride rides and be with the cousins. Quincy and I even noticed that we enjoyed it a little bit more just because they were into it. We decided we better get out there Thursday and enjoy the nice day because the weather for the weekend didn't look too good. We spent almost the whole time letting the kids (mostly Jensen) ride the rides. Lucy didn't want to play along too much. I can't believe what a scaredy-cat she is. She did ride some of the rides but didn't get her money's worth on her unlimited ride pass. We kept saying we should give it to some other kid.

Right when we got there, Jensen found his cousins and went on his first ride. He didn't quite grasp the idea of waiting in lines. He would just bypass everyone in line until he got to the front. He is so little and determined that the other kids didn't stop him.

He went on this one the most. He loved it.

Lucy did go on a couple. Later she said the swings were her favorite.

Jensen would just laugh and smile on every ride. People would stop and say how happy he is. He was.

We stopped and took a break from the rides to play in the kids area. Jensen got quite a kick of out this mirror and his big head.

Cousins excited to see each other.

The break didn't last long. We had to get our money's worth out of the ride passes.

Plus the Slightings, a family from our ward, showed up so we started another round on the rides.

Just when we thought Lucy was getting over her fear we put her on a kid's roller coaster. It was a little bumpy and by the second lap she was crying and scared. We were all laughing. By the fourth lap she had had enough and started to get out of her seat. The carnie worker had to stop the ride and reverse it slowly back to the loading dock. That was the end of the rides for her.

Jensen did get in trouble with one of the carnie workers. He exited one of the rides on the wrong side which took him into the middle of the ride. He was walking around on the tarp trying to find an exit. I was busy talking and didn't notice what was going on. The carnie had to come and fetch him. He wasn't too happy with either one of us. We didn't ride that ride again.

This picture just explains how much this kid enjoyed being at the fair.

To top it off we ended the night with an ice cream cone.

Day two was more low key thank goodness. My legs were worn out from standing at all the rides the day before. We watched Shelbi show her lamb. She did such a good job. She placed 5th in market.

After, we enjoyed more ice cream and snow cones.

The highlight of the day was when Grandma Haworth paid for all the grand kids to go on the bungee trampolines. Jensen loved it last year and loved it again this year. I thought he might start doing flips he loved it so much. Maybe next year?

We put Lucy up on the tramps but she just wanted to jump by herself. Then she saw that her cousin Demsie was jumping on the other tramp so she got over her fear and said she would do it.

Of course she loved it too!

We finished just in time. It started raining right after. We hurried and indulged our yearly carnie food cravings and then called it a day.

Grandma Haworth with 9 of her 25 grand kids (and 1 son).

Day three we hit the animal barns while the auction was going on.

The kids were making everyone around them laugh when they kept saying, "tickle, tickle" to the chicks.

We made it back in time just to see Shelbi sell her lamb. Quincy bought it with the help of his company again. We also saw Grandpa Haworth in action whack his cane when bids come in.

After the auction we were faired out! So we headed home back to the city.
It was a wonderful weekend and we know the kids will be talking about it for weeks!
