They Say It's Your Birthday LUCY!

 

Lucy turned 4 earlier this month. When we would ask her what she wanted for her birthday she would say everything. She was ready for her big day so we let her open her present before breakfast. Daddy played the Beatles song "They Say It's Your Birthday" as she came downstairs since this is one of her favorite songs. She gave us a little dance of course.

 

Since Lucy was vague on what she wanted she got lots of clothes and new boots, a mermaid doll, new paints and art activities, and a gumball machine. She seemed pretty happy with her present except the clothes. Maybe next time she will be more specific.

 

 

 

 

Since she had preschool on her actual birthday I thought we better bring cupcakes to her classmates. We had a little extra time before school started so we snapped some pictures.

 

 

 

 

Later that night we took Lucy to dinner at Red Robin. She is making this her birthday tradition. I think she loves that they sing to her and she gets ice cream at the end of her dinner.

 

 

 

 

After dinner we met the Kanets at the pumpkin patch. I thought I would have energy to throw Lucy a real birthday party but when it came down to it, my energy level wasn't up for it. So we gave Lucy the option of going to the pumpkin patch or Chuck E. Cheese. She picked the pumpkin patch and it turned out to be a great night. So after a quick change of clothes the kids were ready for the pumpkin patch. They got to ride on rides and bounce on many bounce houses. Luckily, there was a really nice guy working and he just let the kids go and go without making us give up our pricey tickets. Instead we got to save those for the kiddy rides.

The following weekend some of my family came down on their fall break. Mom and Dad are taking over our old house as a 2nd home and were bringing down furniture. Matt and his family drove down my parents and their Uhaul of stuff. It was fun having family stay with us in our new house and not be on top of each other. We put Matt to work again fixing little things around the house. He truly is keeping up the title as Brother of the Year.

 

On Sunday, we finally had Lucy's birthday cake with the cousins. She got to open presents once again and was happy to have her birthday spread out over a week.

Daddy Daughter Campout

 

Our new ward had a Daddy Daughter Campout on September 20th. We actually had to talk Lucy into going on this trip. She wasn't too sure if she would like camping in a tent or being away from her mama, but she went. Daddy and her took Little Caesars Pizza up to Camp Stimpson on Mount Charleston. This is where our old ward goes to girls camp. I guess our new ward doesn't because none of them knew it was even there.

 

When they got there Lucy was a little sad. Quincy said she was missing home but after awhile she warmed up and had fun. Quincy got to meet some dads up there while Lucy was shy and hung around daddy.

 

The highlight for Lucy was painting daddy's fingernails on Saturday morning.  Of course she picked bright pink.

Jensen was a little sad that he had to stay home with his mom while they went camping. I did take Jensen on a few errands but made a stop at Circle K for Root Beer and picked ourselves up a pizza from Little Caesars. He was a happy boy for being left home.

First Days of School

 

Now this is really the most wonderful time of the year for Mommies when kids go back to school. Jensen gets to go to all day to kindergarten, I was a little too excited about this. We weren't sure that he would do okay with such a long day but he really has been doing alright with it. Towards the end of the week you can tell he gets tired and even wakes up with a fake cough sometimes telling me he is too sick to go to school. One Friday I actually bought the act and kept him home. Quincy was home that day with him and said he didn't cough the rest of the day.

 

His school isn't too far from our new home but he still rides the bus. I am so glad because what a pain it is to take and pick up everyday. He still loves riding the bus so I don't feel too guilty making him ride the bus. His bus driver in the morning is an older gentleman. Jensen calls him Uncle Grandpa. Not sure how that started. Riding the bus has been adventurous for Jensen. I have gotten two phone calls from the district saying that their bus has been in an accident. I guess the driver doesn't get through the community gate fast enough and it closes on the back of the bus. Jensen said the police came and gave the bus driver a ticket. I don't think he actually gets a ticket but it makes Jensen's day seeing policemen in action.

 

Jensen actually spends half a day in the Autistic Room with Ms. Sharp. He was in there all day at first but I called and had them read his IEP which states he will have split day between regular education and the Autistic classroom. Let's just say I wasn't too happy with what was coming home the first week of school. Now he is getting homework regularly from his general education teacher Mrs. Lewis who he spends the other half of the day with. He is working on writing his letters correctly and is getting better each day but you can tell writing is definitely not his favorite. He is also working on site words, syllables, and letter sounds.

This little girl waited a long time to have her first day of preschool. She didn't start until September 17th at the Vegas Valley Rec Center. One of the sad points of moving was knowing all the good preschool teachers in the area (Lucy misses Ms. Crystal from last year). We asked in our new ward but with not too much luck. So Lucy is attending preschool at a Rec Center about 10 minutes from home. She was ready to go though, and so was I. She was not liking my long days in my office and was ready to go play with other kids. She has 20 other kids in her class but she seems to really like it. She goes twice a week for two and a half hours. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

She has already been leader for the day and that was for sure a big highlight. She also gets to take show and tell on Thursdays. She has taken her favorite toys for this day each week. We also stop for our weekly Sonic pick me up on these days. Lucy loves getting a slushy for herself and a cherry limeade for her brother that gets home just a little bit after her.
